With the Slickscreen application you can keep an eye on multiple websites at the same time. That’s because this browser takes a multi-panel approach to surfing the web. You can load Facebook in one panel, the computational knowledge engine Wolfram Alpha in another, and the fast download directory FindMySoft in another. And with a simple click you can change the view mode. You can also play with the layout a little bit. You can switch the panels around and you can adjust their size as you see fit.

The Slickscreen installation file isn’t even 1MB in size, it is considerably less than that – and that’s a good thing, it means that downloading the file will take little of your time. Installing the application will take little time as well (Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 are supported). Just run the installation file and follow the instructions presented by the setup wizard to have the browser up and running.

There are two versions of Slickscreen: the Free version and the Professional version. When you’re done with the installation process and you launch Slickscreen Free, before you get to the interface, you are presented with an “Upgrade to Slickscreen Professional” prompt.

If you have ever used a browser before, and surely you have, you should immediately figure out how to use the application. Or to put it in other words, the interface is so easy to use that it will take you but a few minutes to figure things out. By default, the browser loads the Slickscreen website, the Slickscreen Facebook page, and the Slickscreen Twitter page. From the Settings menu (access it by clicking the cog symbol in the upper part of the interface) you can change the webpages Slickscreen loads in panel 1 through 4 and you can select the panel mode you want Slickscreen to use when it launches. Please note that the option to change the webpages Slickscreen loads in panel 1 through 4 is not available in the Free version.

Switching from one layout to another is as simple as clicking the mouse. In the top left hand corner there are buttons for various layouts; just click them and Slickscreen will change the layout. A nice surprise is to be found under the button that looks like a star. Under that button you will find some extra and quite handy layouts. The “Tech News” layout in particular will appeal to the software enthusiast.

When you close Slickscreen Free, your default browser will launch and you will be taken to a webpage where you are invited to upgrade to the Professional version.

With another browser you would have to switch between tabs to keep an eye on multiple websites. With Slickscreen and its multi-panel approach you don’t have to: you can load multiple websites in the browser’s panels.

Pros

You will have Slickscreen up and running on your Windows PC in no time at all. Load different websites in the browser’s panels, switch between different panel layouts, manually adjust the size of the panels, manually switch the panels around. Manage and save layouts. Change the colors the browser uses. Open the website loaded in a panel with your default browser.

Cons

Nagging prompts to upgrade to the Professional version. Limited functionality in the Free version (some settings are disabled).
